Stortford Lodge Stock Values
HASTINGS, Feb. 4. Influenced by rain, buyers of store .iieep at Stortford Lodge today bid up strongly and the market for larnbs was even firmer than last week's good sale. Once more lambs dominated in the yarding of 12,000 head, a large number of thein being tail-end lots suitable only for carrying over. For these the inquiry was steady on a buoyant level. The few wethers on offer sold well. What ewes came for ward were mereiy fattening propositions. Top price for woolly wether lambs was 31s 6d. • Otlier good woolly lines were traded at 28s 5d to 29s 4d, smaller bringing 24s to 25s 7d. Good shorn wether lambs changed liands at 28s, smaller maldng 24s 4d to 25s ld. Small to medium ewe lambs ofl: the sliears sold at 25s 2d to 27s 9d and similar woolly ewe lambs 27s 9d to 29s 3d. Small Down cross lambs realised 23s 7d. . Cattle were scaree generally. There were no stores apart from a few dairy beasts. Only 65 head of fat cattle came for ward. Quality was not particularly featured but with the short entry the demand was good. For handy weigiit beef values were firmer witlr heifers up to 60s a 100 lbs. and ox at 55s. Medium ox realised £17 3s 6d to £18 3s 6d, lightsreight ox £13 18s 6d to £16 18s 6'd,
hcavy heifers to £17 18s Gcl, prime to £15 16s, uufinislied £12 13s Gd. The only cows olfered, ex-dairy sorts, sold from £5 11s to £10 13s 6d. Vealers sold at| £2 14s 6d to £3 13s 6d. Faeed with a short yarding, operators wrere responsible for a lirm market in the fat sheep section. Wethers in short supply sold from 36s 7d to 39s ld, prime ewes 28s to 30s 7d others 23s /d to 26s 4d and Down cross 33s 7d to 34s ld. Good lambs sold at 35s lOd to 3Ys ld and lighter 29s 4d to 32s lOd.
