INFRA-RED LAMPS TO DRIVE AWAY FROST
Infra-red lamps are to be -used experimentally "in Kem ahd Warwiekshire orchards instead of fuel burnhig heater fiots, as a means of protdcting fruit trees fvom damage by spring frosts. Pots, it- is pointed out, warni the air round tlie trees whereas infra red lamps wa'nn the trees themselves. Tests will lie made by- two leading British fruitgrowers and a well-knowh electrical company. If the metliou proves snc'cessful it is claimed thatjhe total apple crop will be iiuproved by 20 per cent. Tlie nu.in cost will be the lamps but it is hoped tliat the new method will not cost more than £100 per acre. 1
