JEWISH CONVOY AMBUSHED NEAR JERUSALEM

A large party of attackers using Bren guns aird hand-grenades ambushed a Jewish convoy of more ' than a dozen vehicles in "Ambush •Valley," 12 miles from Jerusalem, i A Reuter correspondent says that Jrcad blocks halted the convoy and the attackers, from prepared positions, raked it with rifle and machine-gun fire. Others crept in u.ider cover to throw grenades. The Haganah escort returned the 1 fire and soine cars in the convoy, i v hich was "from Rehoboth, broke I chrough the gauntlet of fire ahd Jreached Jerusalem with three shot iJews.' An ambulance left to col'lcct the other casualties. Unknown gunmen fired on six 1 Irish Guardsmen travelling in I the Safad ,area, near the Syrian I'fcorder.
