NAPIER, Feb. 2. A 31-year-old married woman, . Ira Doreen Brown, of Meeanee, was eharged in the Magistrate's ^Jourt today before Mr. Wily, S.AT., with assaulting JYljchaei Trevor Wakely, her three-year-old soir of a bigamous niarfiage. . Menior-Sergeant W. K. Miller stated that defendant married • bigamousiy some vears.ago a man named Wakely, who was now only 21 years of age. Defendant had stated she had married Wakely when under the impression that Brown was/dead. On his return home from work on Monday last Wakely fonnd his three-year-old son had been badly assaulted. Defendant admitted using a strap on the ehild. Mr. D. P. McLeod, solie'itor for de fendant, argued that Brown Was mentally and physically siclc and the honsehold of ilve, young children was just too much for her. She was genuinely fond of the children, but it was a ease of losing her temper under stress. • n Brown was convieted and ordered to conie up for sentence :if called upon within six inonths.
