Maternity Hospital Wanted A letter was received "by" the Shannon Borough Council at its meeting on Tuesday evening, suggesting that the council approach the district member. on the Palmerston North Hospital Board and place before him Shannon's request for the opening of a maternity hospital locally. Follpwing a discussion, Cr. H. Aitchison moved that the town- clerk, Mr. J.: T. . Bovis, ccntact the board member, asking .him to aheet the council to discuss the matter. Sealing of Grey Street A communication has been received by the Shannon Borough Council from th'e district engineer of the Public Works Department, stating that the revised proposals for the sealing and reconst4ruction of Grey Street have now been finally approve'd, and the work may be put in hand accordingly b-y the Horowhenua County Council on behalf of the borough. The Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, explaihed that the new proposals were estimated to cost £2950. On the previous estimate prepared, • the • cost to Shannon would be £644 and this amount was being financed by way of a loan from the Maln Highways Board. The revised .estimate would mean that the council would have to provide "a further £93. It was resolved that application be made to the Highways Board for a'n additidnal advance of this sum.
