Al CKLAN1), Jan. 29. ' ' The fishing here is the linest I havc seen any where in tlie' world," said Mr. Wendall \V. Anderson, of Detroit, Michigan, a big game tisherman, when he arrived at Aucklanu from fclan Francisco by Pau-American Airways clipjier to lead Yale University's fish research expedition in New Zealand. With Mr. Anderson were the other deep-sea iishermen in the expedition, Messrs. L. Baldridge and F. Holliday who wero accompanied by their wives, and Mr. Ernest King. The party will leav-e tomorrow for the expedition 's headquarters at Otehei Bay, Bay of lsland,s. Mr. Anderson, who arrived witli his wife and son, said the expedition had two main objeets. One was to collect material for the Peabodv Museu i!i in Newhaven, which was at present holding an exliibit.ion of land mammals, it -was hoped that the exhibits collecled in New Zealand waters would assist in preparing a compreliensive display of the Vvorld's fish. Exhibits from New Zealafid w*ould consist mainly of plaster models of the iish which would be made by the expedition ;s taxidermist, Mr. li. C. Migdalski, wlio arrived a week ago. The second purpose of the visit was to obtain scientific information for Yale University. ' The expedition 's scientist, Mr. J. E. Morrow, who arrived with Mr. Migdalski, has brought 2G cases of equipment from America. He would make a study of the breeding, spawning and feeding habits of the fish and lie would also collect data on sea parasites and the temperatures of the fish and the. water in which tliev were caught.' Most of the fishing will be done in' the Bav of Islands, but other waters may be visited. The expedition, howeveij will not concentrato entirely. on deep-sea fishing. Mr. "William Sidley, a fly" fisherman from Wvoming, will join the party shortly and lie- Will fish for trout. -The expe- ' dition will remain in New Zealand until March 8.
