His Majesty's sldop Snipe, a unit of the British West Indies Squadron,- at present visiting British outposts in the Falkland Islands dependeneies, before slie retnrns to base hopes to penetrate further south than any other British naval vessei in this area. The Snipe, which last radioed that she was south of latitude 60, is carryirig the Governor of the Falkland Islands on a tolir of tlie outposts. The visit is be- i lieved to b,e not uneonnected with reeent Chilean claims to the Falklands and the despatch of a Chileaii expeditidn to the British sector of the Ant* arctie.
