BILL TO NATIONALISE GAS
A Bill to nationalise Britain's gas industry is expected to be submitteu during the coming scssion of Parlia ment. At present there are 1051 separate gas producing organisations ir. Britain supplying 40,000,000 domestii consumers. The industry claims that eight families in every ten in Britain eook by gas. Invested capital in various private . :lnd municipal gas undertalcings is esti mated at £262,000,000. The industfy is expepted stroiigly to oppose any move towards nationalisation. It has already proposed a greatly reduced number of gas producing undertakings by introducing aj larger measure of cooperation and integration.
