WELLINGTON, Jau. 16, Tlie. appeals by Mr. H. Salway, owner • of Mereian Lad, and Mr. B. jn. Sandilands, stipendiary steward, against the decision of the Wanganui District Comniittee oh the ArgumentativeMercian Lad case, were upheld today by the, Raeihg Conference appeal judges. After the running of the Empire Handicap at Feilding on November 2-, won by Argunientative from Mereian Lad, the judicial committee of the Feilding Joekey Club reversed the placing, awarding the race to .hlercian Lad on the grounds of interference and suspending A. Bowness, rider of Argunientative, for one month. Alessrs A. W. McDonald and W. G. Shannon, owners of Argunientative, and the joekey, Bowness, suecessfully appealea to the Wanganui District Comniittee against the Feilding judicial comniittee 's decision. The appeal judges fouiid that the interference of Argunientative did afl'ect the- ehanee ot Mereian- Lad. They allowed the appeals of Mr. Salway and Mr. •Samlilands and placed Mereian Lad first and Argumentative second in the pire^- Handieap. The judges ordered that Bowness be suspended from today for the balanee of the term iuqiosed by the Feilding committee, sueh suspeusion to oxpire on February 5. ( The judges were Messrs J. Macfarlane Laing (Masterton), J. Jameson .(Masterton) and T. B. Heath (Wellington).
