The district health inspector, Mr. W. J. Guinayi, reported to Wednes: day's monthly rrieeting of the Otaki Borough Council that he . had made the usual inspections, mcluding the various building jobs under way in. the borough. Five new sentic tanks had been approved, an'oi two shops in which food was sold inspected and the ownerS Lnstructed to give them attention. ■¥■ -K. + • Several applications for extraordinary water supply were received and will be "eonsidered. Some councillors were of the opinion that where commercial gardens were outside the borough area, an oxtraordinary water supply should not be granted. -K -K -K - An application tfrom the Municipal Croquet Club for permission to hol'd a shop day on January 23 was granted. It was also agreed to allow the Combmed deamen's Institute Febtuary 20 for the purpo'se of holding a shop day. * -K ■ ■¥■ Acknowledging the council's ietter, Mr. R. Semple, Minister of Works, said he^was pleased to hear that the drag-line. had done such good work. ■¥■ -K ¥ As agent for Mr. Harry Wong, Mr. Harold Taylor wrote enclosiilg a suggested sub-divisional plan. It was referrt/d back for amendment. A plan of a proposed sub-division of a property in Mill Road, submitted by Mr. G. Lindsay, was approved. * -k -fc Letters were received from Mrs. Lowry and family and Mrs. Elliott and relatives, acknowledging the council's sympathy in their recent sad bereavements. M M ■¥■ Mr. Tomiinson wrote stating that he would accept the tenancy of the Beach pavilion on the terms stated by the council. ■K -K . * A ietter from Otaki Amusements, Ltd., » stated that the company proposed to carry out renovations to the, theatre, including the painting of the auditorium and the tiling of-the conveniences; and asked the council if it would be prepared to put this work in hand. The Ietter was referred to the works committee with power to act. * -K -K An application for a position on the borough staff was received from Mr. E: Walters who stated that he was leaving the employ of the Lower Hutt City Council to take up residence in Otaki. He was familiar with general. work, and held a heavy trade motor license. The council decided to reply stating that at present no vacancy existed. -K M -k An enlarged photograph of the past council was received and it was decided that it be framed and hung in the council chambers. * * * Consent to a sub-division of land was granted Messrs. Buxton and Kirkwood. ■¥■ * * Mr. A. H. Packer brought to the notice of the council, the inade-^ quacy of the water supply to his residence in Marine Parade, and suggested an extension of pipe.s oi adequate size. it was stated that the extension of a four-inch main to five houses was necessary and that at present nothing could be done although it was hoped for improved service when pipes were to hand. * ■ -K -a The Otaki Borough Council foreman has been instructed to make an inspection of the borough to ascertain if the restrictions in regard to water are being earried out. Tliose not complying will be prosecuted. * * M The unformed road between the Raukawa and Mangapouri Creek is to be cleaned and levelled for a children's playing area. This was a work's committee recommendation adoptsd by the council.. Other works committee recommendations adopted were that the Waerenga Road footpath be prepared for .arring, that a footpath be formed from the main gate at the domain to Mill Road and 'that Moana Street be tar-sealed'.
