WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. Values deelined on the opening day of the 22ud uational sale of thoroughbred yearlings at Trentham to-day. Of 120 lots oft'ered, '77 were sold for' an aggregate . of 32,8272gns., giving an average of 426gns. On the firat day of last year's sale, 90 lots were disposed of for an average of 7I0gns. Top priee to-day was IGOOgns., whicli Mr. W. R. Kemball (Melbourne) paid for a grey eolt by Nizaini from Lady Rosette ofl'ered on aecount of Miss H. M. Westenra, Dunsandel. Mr. Kemball bought five other lots, paying in all S,600gns. towards the aggregate of 12,240gns. whieh Australian buyers gave for 19 lots they purchased. Top priee for fillies was l,200gns. whieh Mr. T. C. Lowry (Okawa) gave for a half sister by Ruthless to Tauloeh offered '"on aceount of the Santa Rosa stud. / ( - Eour lots from the Alton Lodge stud sold for 2,800gns., an average of 700 gns. Two of these, a colt by Gold Nib from Cairness, bought by the Takanini trainer, Mr. F. Smith, for a patron, and a filly by Gold Nib from Miss Vixen, bouglit by Mr. Kemball, realised l,Uuo gns. Each of the aggregates for other leading studs whieh sold to-day, were down eonsiderably on last year.
