SYDNJBY, Jan. 13. Icy winds and drizzling rain made yesterday tlie coldest January day in Sydney for iiva yeafs. A succession oi 28 wet dttys since December 1 ' iias given the highesr rain reco ding for the period in 27 years. Because of the rain and cold, electricity biack-outs wero caused in some suburbs. Several country towns suffered haii dainage and at' Boggabri, in Northvvest New South Wales, a phenomenal hailstorrn caused roofs and' gutterings to collapse under four feet of hailstones. At Coonamble ice two feet thick formed on many buildings during a freakish storm last night. Floods have isolated all Nortliern Queonsland, making the roads and railways impassable north of Cardwell. The main cause of the isolation is the Murray River. Uairns is a sheet of water, with children canoeing in some streets. Following torrential rain on the soath coast, the New South Wales Weather Bureau yofit.erday issued a flood warning. Last night 468 poiuts of rain fell at "Bodalla and 373 at Moruya. Heavy rain in the Riverina caused further damage to crops. The township or Tullv, in Queensland, has been isolated by floods and washouts.
