CRUSHED BY FALLING TREE

NAPIER, Jan. 13. Cruslied when caught by a falling tree at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Pohukura, about 60 miles north of Napier on th« Taupo Road, Johu Olapperton, a mill employee, did not reach Napier Hospital until 4.30 p.in. ' He was engaged felling a big matai tree which . swung aside after striking another tree and pinned -him to tlie ground. Mr. Olapperton was taken to tlie main road in a truck. From there an attempt was made to talce hira to Naiper by private car whicli, however, broke down on a high hill climb, necessitating a iong wait for a service car. The final stage of the journey was by St. John Ambulance which met the service car. Mr. Olapperton reaclied liospital 7 hours after the accident. He suffered a broken left leg and possibly tliree bones broken in the right foot, and- a fracturcd shoulder.
