RAIN WILL BENEFIT CROPS AND STOCK
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 11. Canterbury late-sown crops and pastures received great benefit from the torrential rain ranging up to iive inches in 14 hours yesterday and last night. Soine districts received only light showers, however. In districts where heavy rain fell the hre danger has gone for tlj.e time being. The Kaitune Yalley liad a downpour of five inches which flooded the road. The Ellesmere district liad inches. Almost an inch fell in Christchurch, a large part of it between 8 p.m. and9 p.m. , Waikari, in ISTorth Canterbury, had only 11 points, but in the neighbouring foothills there was nearly an inch. Slight damage by flooding in some districts was muek more than offset by benefit to stock and crops which had suffered through three weeks of hot dry weather. Torrential rain in Christchurch at 8 p.m. yesterday flooded, part of the Canterbury Public Library at the . busiest, time of the day.
