Munford, Pretoria Road, lef t on Friday to spend a holiday with her sister, Mrs. B. Wilkinson, of Plimrtierton. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Campbell, Plimmer Terrace, returned home on Saturday evening after spending a holiday in the Gisborne district. Diphtheria Inoculations The district nurse, Sister McDonald, advises that inoculations for the prevention of diphtheria will be carried out in the nurse's rooms, Plimmer Terrace, on Wednesday next commencing at 10'a.m. Parents who have children due for their inoculations are advised to report at the time specified. Summer Sports Cancelled Owing to the- heavy rain which fell throughout Saturday afternoon, all cricket, tennis and bowling fixtures were cancelled. The rain did not dampen the spirits of Shannon racing enthusiasts on Saturday, as all transport to the Woodville race meeting was well patronised. Many private cars also made the trip. Work Recommences Employees of the Public Works and Industries and Commerce £)epartments r.ecommenced work in the Moutoa swamp this morning after the Christmas recess. N.Z. Woolpack and Textile's factory at Foxton also recominenced work today. The local borough and legal offices have now reopened and the town is back to normal after the holidays. A Welcome Rain The heavy showers of rain which fell from time to time over the weekend were most welcome to the district's farming community. Perhaps those who most appreciated the rain were the rural honsewives who have to rely on tank water for their household • supply. Their supplies have now -been well replenished. The only farmers who did not welcome the rain were , those who have their hay still in the paddocks ready for stacking.
