WORLD TRIP IN AMPHIBIAN JEEP
KEW YOEK, Jan. 9. Prederick Benjamin Carlin, a 35-year-old "Australian, is to embark from New York on a unique round-the-worldy trip in a Pord amphibian jeep. Mr Carlin, who served with the ltuyal Indian Bngineers in India, Iraq, Persia, Paiestine, byria and ltaly, hopes tQ complete the trip in iive months. \v'ith a c ruising speed of five miles an hour, Mr Carun s amphibiau lias a mariue radius of 2200 miles vvithout extra petrol tanks. He will carry twovvay radio equipment. The iirst leg of the journey will be froin New korlc to the Azores and Gasablaiica, then by land through Cairo, Baghdad, Delhi and Calcutta, thence to Akvab, m hunua, by water, Uience to Bangkok and Saigon by land, and tlien by a series of water hops to the Phiiippines4 Palau, Truk, Bikini, Wake, Midway, MonoJulu to San hnuiciseo. Mr Carlin expects to start within a furtnight.
