Beceived Bundav, 7 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 11. The Foreign Oflice has announced that Mr Ernest Bevp and the Iraqi Premier, Baiyid vSalih Jabr, initialled t-he draft of"a new Anglo-Iraq treaty allianee to replace the 1930 treaty. The discussions have been extreniely cordial. The treaty will be signed next week and published as soon as possible afterwards. • The announcement ,is seen as the sign of improving relations between Britain and the Middle East countries, says Eeuter's- diplomatic correspondent. Well-informed quarters believe Britain, under the new treaty, waived the right to maintain troops in peace time, ! eiljoying lraqi legal immunities at the Habbaniyah and Bhaibah airfields. It is- believed Iraq will in future controi these airiields though British aiferafl are expected to use them until alternative facilities are developed. -The 1930 pact was based ou out-of-date political concepts and strategy.
