CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 9. A record was established at Smith'.city market today when Mr. J. N. Seott paid 1740 guineas for the maiden trotter Attack sold on belialf of Messrs. V. Leeming and O. Oakley. This is easily the highast price ever paid at auetion in New Zealand for a iight-harness horse. The previous record of 1250 guineas was paid by Mr. R. Kennedy for the iilly Likely last season. Other high prices paid at auetion for trotters and pacers in New Zealand include Escort 950 guineas, Bellisima 850 guineas and Red. Shadow 650 guineas. The record auetion price in Australia is 1400 guineas paid by Mr. C. J. MeCarthv, Junee, New South Wales, on December 6 for a six-vear-old geld ing by his Globe Derby horse Springfield Globe which is at his stmi. hlr. Scott said after the sale that Attack woujd be trained by Mr. NI. W. Diekie at Sp'ringston. A f'our-year-old horse, Attack, which was bred by Jlr. Oakley, is by the American-bred Light Brigkde which is at Mr. J. R. McKenz.ie's stud, from Sparkling Sunshine by the 1923 Domiuion trottiug liandicap winner Native Kiug from Rawene by ■Albert Victory from a Judge Beldon. . inare.
