s * DUNEDN, Jan. 7. Measures have been: taken by the rationing cbntroller to ensure that expectant mothers receive adequate supplies of white wool for babies wear. They will operate as from the beginniug of this "month. ' > :* The decision follows representations made by the Dominion Council of the Plunket Society early last month in discussions with the rationing controller and the Retailers' Pederation. Making the announcement, the secretary (Miss K. Rapps) said the word 1 ' maternity ' ' will be endorsed on the inside of the back cover of all ration books of expectant mothers making application for additidhal butter. "This will enable retailers to continue the policy of supplying only for baby wear the materials such as white wool w^hich are in short sUpplyJ and will overcome the difficulty caused by the eessation of the issue of supplementary ration books to expectant mothers/ 3 said Miss Rapps. "The cover sheet of the ration book will be used by the retailers to note the purchases. " She expressed the society 's gratitude to the rationing controller and the Retailers ' Federation for their co-operation which had been so readily given." She was not in a position to say when there would be adequate supplies of white wqoI even for babies' needs, said the secretary of the Dominion Councii of the Plunket Society in Dunedin, Miss K. Rapps, in referring to yesterday's announcement, but steps taken now Dy the rationing controller were to ensure that what supplies were available would go to those svho needed them most urgently. The decision of 'the rationing controller to give preferentiai treatment to expectant mothers in saies of white wool by endorsing their ration books is a continuation of the voluntary system instituted by retailers, sht> added. When clothes rationing was abolished retailers were faced with diffieulties in applying their scheme ana the council 's representations to tlie rationing controller became necessary.
