DRY SPELL HITS HAWKE'S BAY LEAST OF ALL
HASTINGS, Jan. 7. Thanks to favourable" spring weather which allowed the couutrvside to enter the summer months with heavier growth tlian usual, the cffects of tlie prolonged dry spell now beiug experienced in the Hawke's Bay have not manifested themselves to anything llke the same degree as two seasons ago when drought couditions prevailed m this district. A good downpour of rain lasting- two or three days certainiy would be welcomed generally but those closely assoeiated with primary production consider couditions at present in the Hawke's Bay are not as serious as perhaps in some other districts. Cer tainly dry hills and pastures tell thei • tale of a comparatively rainless si: weeks or niore, but many of the eoastai and liinterland areas of the province have enjoyed occasional rq,ins which had a refreshing etTect on groirih.
