MAN REMANDED ON SERIOUS CHARGE

MASTERTON, Jan. 8. Charged with having committed rape at Te Gre Ore on December 17, Edward Cornelius Wadham, aged 58, of • Carterton, was remanded on bail until January 19 when he appeared in the Masterton Magistrate's Court this morning. Bail at £500 self an'd one surety of £500 was granted. In applying for a remand, De-tective-Sergcant Gordon said that the police had no objection to bail provided that it was suhstantial. There was an allegation that the cliief witness had been approached, and Detective-Sergeant Gordon suggested that it be made a- condition of bail that no witnesses be approached. Accused consented to the remand.
