Sea Fury Prevailed In Blanket Finish To Open Sprint

The Marton Jockey Club's summer meeting; was concluded yesterday in brilliantly fine weather and the principal race, tlie Alchvorth Stakes, was won by The Denbigh, owned and trained by Mr. fi. W. Clarke, of Feilding, The Denbigh finishing brilliantly ho head- Yasda just short of the post. The open sprint was won by Sea Fury. The eourse was fast. , There was a f air attendance and the totalisator handled £47,315, eompared with £51,097 on the second- day 'last year. The total for the meeting was £103,4/7, as aa-ainst £112,7924 last year.

The Denbigh "vvoil the Aidworth Stakes with a brilliant run which gave him the decisioxi by half a head from Yasda ' whieh laoked -to have the race won half a furlong from horne, but whose jockey was handicapped by not having both irons. * Alright, oue of the leaders into the straight, linished solidly and was only a neck further back at the post. When the field had settled down, Czarina, Argumentative and The Stormovik were in front and the pace was on from the start. Seven furlongs from home the order was Czarina from The Stormovjk and ' Argumentative, Emerge and Robin's Reward, Alright and Yasda. The leaders were well bunched at the half-mile and into the straight the leaders were Argumentative and Alright from Yasda and Gzarina. Yasda was in front a furlong from home and Alright, Robin's Reward and The Stormo vik were all putti. g in claiins. Then The Denbigh flashed up j with a brilliant run which gave him the victory by half a head. After the dividend payers came Robin 's Reward, The Stormo vik, Emerge, Argumentative, Sailor Boy and Czarina. It was learned later tliat Yasda 's rider was without oue iron from the half-mile. It was when the leather broke tliat Yasda made the sudden move forward.

Four in a Row. The open sprint was run at a very fast pace and there was a thrilling ^finish when Sea Eury, Morning Dew, Ihe , Eagan and Concrete flashed past the judge almost in line. When the field liad settled down, The Pagan was leading from Sea Fury and Morning Dew, and into the straight it was The Pagan from Morning Dew, The Eland, Sea Eury, Parnell and Concrete. The field was" in a buuch and in a grand finish Sea Fury giadually closed on The Pagan and Morning Dew and then Concrete flashed up the four goiug past together with Sea Fury on the outer a nose in front of Morning Dew with half head intervals to The Pagan and' Concrete. Next was The Grand. Conceal Pays Sensational Dividend. . There was a sensational dividend in the lirst race which was wqn by the Otaki trained geidmg Conceal, from La Selle and Jtioyal lcobin. The winner paid over three-quarters of a centuiy Sly Goid and Lord Ilollaiid 1 were the favourites, but they were badiy placed early and not in the picture when the field swept into the straight. Sensational led into the home stietch anu others well forward were Conceal, Precious Metal, Phoenicia, La Selle, Mvfox, Royai Robin and Billette. Then Conceal went to the front and won easily by over two lengtlis from Ea Selle a head in front ct Royal Robin. Myfox was fourtli with Lord Holland, -Description and Sailor Song almost in line with the fourth horse.

Hurdles to Glen Urquhart. Two falls marred the hurdle race. The favourite, Royal Moutoa, came to grief at the lirst fence and Gvnerio at the last. When Gynerio f ell, it was in front of Bonifort which went over him without falling. The winner was Glen Urquhart whicfi led through tlie straight the lirst .time. With a mile still to go, Gynerio went to the front to lead from Glen Urquhart and Park Light. Bonilort moved up to be handy to the lead- 1 crs running to the last fence, but when Gynerio fell and interfered with Bonifort, it ieft Glen Urquhart to run in an easy winner by six lengtlis from Bonifort which beat Park Light by a length. The rider of Royai Moutoa, W. Blanche, was sent to hospital for ob.servation. Buchanan Just Beat Divided. Buchanah and Divided were the favourites for the two-year-old race and they fought the finish, Buchanan winniug by a neck. Kentucky Elight was oue of the best to begin, but lie had an interrupted run and lost his place before the field had gone far. Chip made a fast run at the three and led into the straight from Divided, Ngaro bi, Sir Bert and Buchanan. Halfwav down the stretch, Buchanan racdd up \o .challenge Divided and they raced together to the post where Buchanan was a neck to the good. Ngarobi was third over a length away- and Chip and Sir Bert were next.

Imprint Paid a Price. i A furlong from nome in the Apprentices' race it looked as though Lady . Oratory vvould win. Over the last bit, however, she was challenged by the j little fancied Imprint, and Imprint beat her home by half a length. Irish Scholar, second belilnd Lady Oratory into the straight, lnmg on gamely for third and she wa& closely foilowed by Cinereous just in front of Brantford and Miehael and Newel Post were next. It was a fast-run race and for the lirst half-mile the pacemakers were j Miehael, Irish Scholar and Lady Ora- j tory ahead of Brantford and Imprint. , Imprint paid over a third of a centurv I on the win niachine and she was riddeu by J.' Hely, who rode his first winner. Brilliant Run by Meteorina. With a brilliant run from the home turn, Meteorina won the Hack Cup by over a length from Waimanu which was another to finish strongly and Horouta ran another fine race to be third. ; Beguile, Patunui, Horouta and Lord Bradbury were prominent early and Patunui went to the front at the halfmile where Lord Bradbury went up into r

"third place behind Patunui and Beguile. Beguile was drifting as the field turned into the straight and Meteorina and Waimanu were moving up to take on Patunui, Lord Bradbury and Horouta. Meteorina finished tOo well fipr the others and Waimanu drew out to beat Horouta by two lengths. Lord Bradbury was fourth and the next to finish were Beguile and Patunui. Win for Cairn Courage. Cairn 'Courage was first past the post in the concluding event, but a protest was entered by the connections of the second horse, Beau Reve, and^ the pay-out was held up for some consi.derable time. Lord Phrosa from Monito, Kind Regards, Piko Piko, Beau Reve and Cairn Courage was the order early and before the straight was reached, Beau Reve was in second place, Ivind Regards in lifth place and Cairn Courage and Molly I Adair next. Beginning the last furlong, Cairn Courage challenged Beau , Reve and the pair of them fought , out the finish, Beau Reve making a iinal ' 1 dab ' ' to get to witliin a head of Cairn Courage on the line. Over two lengths awuy was Kind Regards and next were Molly Adair ahd Lady Hilton. The pay-out of dividends after the concluding race at Marton yesterday was held up for half an hour while the

judicial eommittee considered a pro test, lodged by the connections of Beau Reve, the second horse, against- fhe winner, Cairn Courage, on the grounds of interference in tlie last furlong.
