BROTHERS DROWNED WHILE CROSSING RIVER
AUCKLAND, Jan. 2. Two brothers from Taumarunui named Love, were 'drowned late this afternoon at t'he mouth of the Marakopa River about 40 miles from Kawhia. They were -returning from a fishing expedition with two other men and were crossing. the river on foot. The tide was •annning ■out 'at the time and the pa-rty Whieh was heaviily ] oiadpd with fishing bags, got into di#c.nlties. A nfoauby resident saw .the men 's .predicament' and. rescned oue of them named Mr. Barney Campbell, of Otorohanga. Another membor of the pai'ty scram'lded nut l«it the Lovu brothers were drowned before tliey could be assisted. Residents of Marakopa were dragging the river for the bodies tonight While they are waiting for ,the police to arrive f-rom Kawhia.
