Review Of New Year Racing

(SPECIAL— FROIV]

WELLINGTON, This Day. The Christmas-New Year holiday racing will be continued tomorrow— New Year's Day — when the largest numher of meetings on the racing calendar for one day will take place, there being eight. Ori Friday both Auckland and Marton will conclude, hut on Saturday another heavyoday's racing will be held when Wairarapa, Stratford, Hawke's Bay and Southland fixtures will be concluded. With the Wellington summer meeting a little over a fortnight away, form at this time of the year invariably works out at Trentham.

The Wairarapa Cup is expected to provide a keen contest with such good handicappers engaged as Longsword, Royal Victor, Barrage, Citation if started, Morotai, Renowned, Foxella and Treasure Tee, to mention the best in the field. After his good performance in the Auckland Cup King's Ransom will be in strong demand for the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, his chief opposition coming from Tiger Tan, Regal Praise, Balgowan and Indian Gol'd. In the open sprint, the Newmarket Handicap, Blue Trout is expected to give a good aceount of herself. She will receive strong opposition in Flowerburn. one of the smartest sprinters in the north, Morocco, Sleepy Fox, Theocritus and General Menteith, but if smartly out from No. 1 position Blue Thout should be hard to beat. Prospects for Auckland, Tauherenikau, Marton, Stratford and Hawke's Bav are as follows: —
