N.Z. APPLES FOR BRITAIN
WELLINGTON, N^w Zealand apples tot&mug 1,000,000 busliel cases would be ship; ped to the Uiiited Kingdom ig the new year, stated the Minister of Marketing, Mr. Culleu, tonight. He added that last season no apples were dispatched from the Dominion because of the shortage of shipping. The Minister said shipping would not be lacking this season. New ships were being built faster than dver hefore in Britain's history and the new vessels were reaching the Dominion with such regularity now that there was every prospect that all the food which this country could make available for export would be got away expeditiously. Oue new sliip alone was loading 200,000 carcases of lamb and muttou but mostly lamb, at Napier at present. This was typical of what was happening at other ports throughout the Dominion. It seemed probable that the eold stores would be emptied as fast as they could be fillod. The Minister said price negotiations were now proceeding regarding the shipment of this season 's apples and there were reasonable prospects that a higher figure would be paid. New Zealand apples were highly regarded overseas. Brazil had made a bid for a large quantity but New Zealand was unable to accept the offer.
