TYPHOON DAMAGE ADDED TO BY EARTHQUAKE
Received Monday, 8 p.m. MANILA, Dec. 28. An earthquake added to the damage inflicted by the typhoon vvhich howled into the Philippines on Christmas nlght and sank the Danish motorship Kina. The earthquake, accompanied "by a storm-lashed sea, destroyed half the town of MauDan, population 15,000, in Quezon province. Property losses are estimated at 400,000 dollars but there was no loss of life. The Danish motorship Kina was abandoned 40 minutes after it crashed on to the jagged rocks of Camaxidag Island, in the sea of Samar, according to tive injured survivors who were flown to Manila today. The ship struck the rocks with such force that its bow wa? fammed back into Wo. 3 hold, said the survivors. There was a grinding ripping of metal and the ship listed violently to starhoard, making it impossible to lower the port-side lifeboats. The survivors added: "Our boat was swamped immediately and we spent the night in the water. The last time we saw the captain he was still on the bridge, ordering the passengers antl crew to the boats." The captain is aniong the 34 still tnissing of the 64 aboard. Twelve or 13 passengers liave been rescued.
