RUSSIAN EXPERIMENT NOT WORKING OUT
Received Monday, 7.45 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 29. TTncensored news from Moscow, describing the situation at the end of the first week of derationing in Russia, reveals a chaotic state oi affairS, says the Daily Telegraph 's diplomatic eorrespondent. For the first day or two, owing to a carefully planned accumulatioh of stocks, the shops gave an impression of abundance. Buying was kept within bounds by the scarcity of the new currency but after December 19, hy which date half a month's wages hadj hy law, heen paid in the new roubles, there was a' sudden deterio'ration. Enormous crowds hesieged the shops and nohody was aliowed to buy more than strictly limited amounts regardless of the size of the household. . Eread and eggs hecame practically unohtainable. As a resuit, "the open air colle£tive farm mafkets, which were thought to have heen put out of business hy the prospect of unlimited supplies in the shops at fixed prices, began to reop.en and soon meat, butter, cheese and other produce were being sold at from two to three times the ' official prices.
