THREE BIG FIRES IN ONE DAY

Received Monday, 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 28. Roaring out of eontrol in the icy morning winds, one of the worst fires in Philadelphia's history, destroyed five large wholesaie shoe warehouses in the heart of the mercantile district today asi well as damaging two other buildings. The firemen were hampered hy suh-freezing temperatures that coated the streets With ice as the flames spread from building to huilding and mushroomed to all floors. Three suffered fractures when a 20-foot section of the roof and wall of one structure collapsed, It was the third big blaze in tne Philadelphia business district withm 24 hours. The total damage caused by the three fires is estimated at 1,500,000 dollars.-
