RESCUE PARTIES ON WAY TO CRASHED FORTRESS

T\yo ground parties battled stormy Arctie weather and 20 degrees below zero teniperatnres today to push slowly towards the wrecked Huperfortress whereon at least /!ve of the eight members oi the crew are believed to have survi ved after the crash on Mounf Herpentirie ahout 100 jniles nortli oi Nomo (Alaska). TJi e pJanc liad been missing 0.n a flight over the Nortli Fole since December 2.'] and the wreckage was sighted yesterday. Oue rescue party was landed hy skiplane near the wreckage and was carrving medical supplies to tlie' survi vors. It was travelling hy dog sleds. Another grouad partv* was edging its Wav across f rozeft w&stelafid in a "we&sel" wliich is a special tractor tvpe of snow vehicle. Pilot.s who sighted • the wreckagt said three inen ran towards the parachuted emergencv and medical eqifipment and a fourth appeared to be attending to another person near the plane.
