The Governinent had approved an all-round increase of ls a day in thewages of workers in. the Cook Islands (including Niue) to offset recent increase in the eost of living, stated the Prime Minister, M,r. Fraser. He added that the people in these islands were largely dependent on New Zealand for their foodstuffs, clothing materials and other neeessities and any variation in living costs in the Dominion were immediately retlected there. The freights on goods shipped to the islands had reeently been substantially increased and that factor had been taken into account in determining the amount of the allowance now approved.
