CHRLSTCHrRCIL Dec. 19. Neariy 900 members of the Canterl>ury section of tlie New Zealand Puhlic Service As'sociation in Christchurch have signed a petition protesting against tlie Public STrvice Commission 's refusal to grant Deeember 29 as a holidav and asking for three consecutive days holidav at Christmas. The comniittee of tfTe section has passed a resolution asking the national executive in Wellington to raise the question with the Commission. This resolution has been telephoned to Wellington. In the past members of the public service have heen given three consecutive days off at Christmas but this year tlie third day falls on Saturdav and the Commission has refused to grant another day 's holidav. When Christmas '•nd Boxing Dav were on Tliursdny and Friday in 1941, the Puhlic Service Unmmlssioner granted the Mondav off also.
