HOROWHENUA CRICKET
WINS FOR WERAROA, COLLEGE AND OLD BOYS With the junior ericket competition suspended • as an infantile paralysis precaution, only senior games were played in the Horowhenua district on Satur'day. Weraroa, College A and Old Boys all had five point wins at the expense of Foxton, Levin and Paraparaumu. The first round of the senior competition concluded with the games on Saturday. Each team has played seven games with a possible score of 56 points if an eightpoint win was made each week. The points are as follows: — Cpllege 30, Foxton 24, Old Boys 23, Levin 22, Weraroa 19, Shannon 12, Otaki 7 and Paraparaumu 7. Weraroa v. Foxton Played .on the Weraroa field in ideal weather, this game resulted in a win for the home team by 28 runs. Wallace, with 21, was best batsman for Weraroa, while De Ca'Stro and Smith took four for nine and two for five Foxton wickets respectively. For the visitors Newth topped the batting with 20. Rodgers took five Weraroa wickets for 27 runs. Paraparaumu had first use of the wicket, but could no do mueh against the bowling of Lynch and Atkinson, who took six for 23 and' four for 12 respectively, and the innirrgs closed for 56. B". Reeves was the only player to make double figures for 'the Paraparaumu team. Batting for Old Boys, G. and N. Sciascia made a total of 58 runs between them. I. Juno and C. Walker were however the princi-; pal run-getters. Old Boys declared with nine wickets for 141 runs/ Paraparaumu's second , innings total reached 61 for nine wickets, when time was declared. Levin College had a five-point win over Levin. College batted first and made 126, Hermanson (20 not out) and Lambert (36) being the principal contributors. Galloway, with five wickets for 33 runs, was the most successful Levin bowler. Levin's innings had yielded 55 runs for the loss of eight wickets when it was declared closed, forcing College to bat again in the hope of a collapse. This did not
materialise and Levin suffered d'efeat on the first ' innings.
