TRIBUNAL GIVES DECISION

WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. Decisions of the Eailwavs Industria Tribunal as a result of the de Iiberatious following the liearing or 47 ciaims at the sitting which begai on October 28 have been announced Following are the main decisions: — Employees wlio can be spared a da\ olf duty on Anniversary Day are to re ceive that day on full pav. .Those required for duty shall receivc a day 'oll on jiav at a later date. hiecond division employees are to receive double rates for time actuallv worked on holiuays under the Holidays Act, and will receive additional pay ment as for eight hours at ordinan rates. In certain circumstances em ployees may take the option of having a day oll' later by forgoing payment as for eight hours at ordinary rates. Transfer allowance not exceeding f25 is pavable on production of re ceipts, or, alternatively, £15 without rgceipts where employees are tran.--ferred at the Department 's expense. Travelling, relieving and night al lowanees are increased by 2s Gd a day or night as the case may be. Time and a lialf is granted for all time worked aftcr midday on Saturdav to all raihvay enqiloyees, as provided for in the Factories Act, 1946. Travelling time up to eight hours for" each ret-urn journe.v to their place of residence every four weeks, if the employees are located more than 100 miles from their homes, is provided for those living in departniental liuts and working in gangs away from thei: liomes. Alore classes of work are includet' for the " dirty work" penalty pay ments. Minor Provisions Other provisions of -a' minor nature have been decided as follow: — Hut allowances are increased from 1 4s 6(1 to 5s a night. Travelling time by train crews is to be paid I'or at night rates when crews travel as passengers. Workers and depot employees wort ing overtime for two or more hours are to«receive meal allowance of 2s, subjeci to a meal break of not less than half an hour and to the inabilitv to go homu for the lneals. Bricklayers iu the niaintenauev branch, mouldeis. sheet motai workers and elect riciaus in the workshops ate to receive a tool allowance of 2s a week. The limrking olf allowance of 2d an hour has been increased to ,'>d an lioux. Tradesmen wclders are to recu-iye an allowance of 2]d an hour vvhile employed al locomotive depots. Railway stall's in the Lake Wa katipo steamer service are to have thexisting allowance of 4s (5d a day increased to 5s a day. l'revious ser\ ice in the cases of traflic assistanls, station agents, surI'acemen, gangers, train examiners, guards, and locomotive running stafT may be computed -for inerement purposes. t Subject to certain limitations regarding total pay, loeOmotivg running staff are to receive "dirty work'' pay for Work done at depots.
