MAORI SENT FOR TRIAL
GISBORNE, Dec. 11. Electing to be dealt with by a jury, Pokira Hami Jones, aged 37, a carpentry trainee, was committed by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., for. trial in the Supreme Court on a charge of being found at night in a house at Matawhero. Evidence was given that a householder was awakened at 3.30 a.m. by a man striking a match outside his bedroom door. He caught the intruder, who was in stocking feet, attempting to escape by a door. Ap--cused, who gave another name, sai4 he was looking for a batteryjas hi's car had broken down. Dead matches were found in several ( rooms, including one in which a child was sleeping. In statements to the police, ac» cused -first denied and then admitted visiting the house. He pleaded not guilty.
