BRITISH TROOPS READY TO INTERVENE IN PALESTINE
(N.Z.P.A.-

Received Wednesday, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, December 9. British troops tonight bivouacked in orange groves in the no-man's-land between Jaffa and Tel Aviv with orders to enforce a "shoot at sight" dusk to dawn curfew, says Reuter's Jerusalem correspondent. The British move follows the Jewish-Arab battle last night, when according to the latest reports, at least twelve Arabs and -six Jews were killed, with scores on both sides wounded.
Reuter's Cairo correspondent says that one fact clearly emerged from the Arab League session — that regular Arab armies will not intervene in Palestine unless foreign aid is given the Jews and the Arab guerrillas are exposed to great dangers. The declarations of the Arab statement, however, show that the Arabs plan to station regular armies along the Palestine borders ready to intervene if necessary. The Palestine Arabs in any event will not launch any large-scale action until the British military wiihdrawal is completed. The British United Press Cairo correspondent says that despite their military preparations and warlike statements, the Arabs are
believed to have decided to try every possible diplomatic manouvre to prevent the partition' before resorting to armed force.
