Lack of eooperation and goodwill at this stage would assuredly lead to the failure of their mission. Aboard the Benville was the beginning of a new phase of this work. It was the Netherlands' earnest hope that it would be suceessful. The Bepublican Premier, Amir Sjarifuddin, paid tribute to the work of earlier British 'negotiators, Lords Inverchapel and Killearn. "Even though their efforts did not bring about the solution. originally hoped for, we recognise that their guidance not only made a contribution to the experienee of our young republic but also demonstratea to the world how a problem of great* eomplexity can be solved by good faith and goodwill.
