PROGRESS OF COMPETITIONS

About twenty members participated in the first round of the Levin Tennis Club's comp.etition for the president's trophy, which was played during the weekend, and Mrs. Porter was the only player to attain the possible of 18 points. Rfisults: Mrs. Porter, 18"; Mrs. Antcliff, H. Benning and M. Fox, 17; Miss Mulcahy and R. Antcliff, 16; O. C. Lagor, 15; Miss Hall, R. Desgrande and H. Walker, 14; D. Roskruge and P. Whitham, 13; K. Beyer and R. Standish, 12; ; Miss Blacklaws and B. Atkinson, 10. Two sets only: Miss Cameron, 12; Miss Norton, 2; R. Mcllraith, 10. In the club handicaps the ladies' doubles have all been .completed. The winners were Miss Cameron and Miss Mulcahy, who won' their second-round match against Misses Maclean and Hock•ing 7 — 1, and then defeated Mrs... Porter and Miss Karauti 7 — 4 jn the final. Good progress has also been made in the ladies' singles. Miss Bell eliminated Miss Mulcahy in the the semi-finals, and will meet Miss Karauti in the final. The men have been much slower in playing off their matches, and to date only one singles game in the second round has been eompleted, Benning defeating Roskruge 9 — 5. Members are taking more intefest in the club ladders lately, and •with additional challenges to be played this week, some changes in the positions on both ladders can be expected. W. Leach suecessfully withstood a dhallefige" from B'. Atkinson, and Miss Cameron r.etained her place on the ladder in her match with Miss Hall.. As the final score (9 — 7) indicates this was a very clQsely-contested set, most games going to deuce. When the games were three-all, the score went to deuce sixteen times before Miss Cameron took the deciding points to lead 4—3.
