Following the lian on some Christmas carolk in 23 New York sdiocds by tlie Assistant Superintendeut of Hchools (Dr. Isaac Bildersee), the Mayor of New York (Mr. O'Dwyeri ordered an in\ estigation of the action. Mr. Andrew Clausen junr., presideut of the New Y' ork Boanl of Education, and Mr. Williani .Jansen, .Superintendent of Eeliools, lield a hurried (onference after M r. O'Dwyer ltad ordereo the investigation. Ylr. clausen said Mr. Bildersee 's order would not be rescindeti but tlie nature oi' the Christmas ]irogranimes in each school wouid be left to tlie discretion of its " principal. Teachers would be reinhuied of the procedure followed in recent years. This appeared to reinove M r.,Bildersee 's ban on the singing of such carols as "Hara the Herald Angels Hing" and "Holy Night" in the 23 schools under lus jurisdiction which have 30, 000 pupils.
