Mr. Andrew Clausen junr., presideut of the New Y' ork Boanl of Education, and Mr. Williani .Jansen, .Superintendent of Eeliools, lield a hurried (onference after M r. O'Dwyer ltad ordereo the investigation. Ylr. clausen said Mr. Bildersee 's order would not be rescindeti but tlie nature oi' the Christmas ]irogranimes in each school wouid be left to tlie discretion of its " principal. Teachers would be reinhuied of the procedure followed in recent years. This appeared to reinove M r.,Bildersee 's ban on the singing of such carols as "Hara the Herald Angels Hing" and "Holy Night" in the 23 schools under lus jurisdiction which have 30, 000 pupils.
