CHARGES AGAINST PREMIER OF TASMANIA
Recei-ved Friday, 7.15 p.m. HOBAET, Dec. 5. The allegation in the Tasmanian Legislative Council that bookmakera had paid £500 to Mr. Cosgrove, Premier of Tasmgjiia, suggested an outcropping of the racket, Mr. Reynolds, Iv.C., tolcl the Royal Commission today. His request that th'e inquiry be extended to embraee the fresh allegation againsl Mr. Cosgrove was rejected by the Eoyal Conimissioner. The Commission is inquiring into allegations by a service car proprietoi that he paid £5400 to Mr. Cosgrove ou behalf of him^elf and other operator3. In the Legislative Council a member alleged that £500 had been paid to the Premier by Tasmanian bookmakers to delay the Bookmakers Bill six months and that when the Attorney General, Mr. B. Fagan, heard of this, he hacl insisted that the money should be repaid.
