AUDACIOUS BURGLARIES

Coutie, Maui Road, weraroa, The first burglary was committed at mid-day 0n Monday while the shop was clOsed for lunch: There was 35s in the till and this was all taken. The * follOwing night an intruder broke into the shop and made off with 8s 6d. When the time came to close the shop iast night, Mr. Coutie found that the key, which nad been hidden on a high ledge, had disappeared. Brown paper covered with whiting was spread over the fioor of the shop and this morning distinct footmarks could be seen leading from the door to the empty till. There was no indication of the door being forced. Some three weeks ago the confectionary shop next door to Mr. Coutie's was entered and a considerable sum in notes taken. Referring the matter to the police, it was revealed that these mcidents had not been reported.
