CALF JUDGING AT OHAU
! KEEN COMPETITION THIS YEAR i The judging of the calf and 1 lamb rearing competitions at the '.Ohau School took place last Frij day. Competition was keen this . year and the animals came forj Ward in exceilent condition. The adjudicator was Mr. J. H. P. Liggins, of Tokomaru, and his* associate judge w|s Mr. Noel Nicholson, of Ohau. " 'T'hj- . The judge's placings in the various competitions were as follows:— Senior, care and attention: Jim Pilgrim 1, Mona Catley 2, Marion McCartney 3. JUnior, care and attention: Gwytha Horn. 1, Gavin Kidd 2, Jenny Burnell 3. Daii-y type: Jim Pilgrim 1, Marion McCartney 2, Mona Catley 3 . Lamb rearing: David Mundy 1, Eilees Pilgrim 2, Betty Pilgrim 3. After the judging Mr. Liggins explained the points on which he had made his placings and gaVe the children a brief talk on calf and lamb rearing. ,Mr. R. W. Evans, a vice-pre^idenb of the Horowhenua Boys' afid Girls' Agi'icultural Club, gave an outline of the activities and organisation of the club. Afternooh tea was serVed in the grounds and a telegram of good Wishes for a successful day read from Mr. E. J. Watts, a former headmaster of the school, who is fiow at Havelock North.
