IMPROVED SHOP LIGHTING
RESTRICTIONS LIFTED OYER HOLrlDAY PERIOD Restrictions on window and interior lighting for shops in Levin will be lifted for the holiday period. Announcing this yesterday afternoon, the managing-secretary of the Horowhenua Electric Power. Board, Mr. R. A. Frederikson, said that it was ' ^foposed jto lift the restrictions throughout Decein'o'erand until January 16. It was then expected that shopkeepers would reduce their lighting to the usual allocation. The electricity controller had advised Supply authorities that, if they so desired, they could relax the restrictions over Christmas, providing their allocations were not exceeded. » There will be no restriction on electricity used for the interior lighting of shops. Shop window lighting may be used between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays with no restriction on the amount of electricity consum- ' ed. Street and under-verandah lighting may be used as desired. These dispensations do not include interior or exterior signs, or interior or exterior outline or ornamental lighting. These elasses of lighting are mainly Neon, and after so many years of nonuse it is felt that it would be unsafe vto allow them to be operated until a thorough overhaul has been made. This would take Several months to do. It is expected that shopkeepers will take every advantage of this relaxation of the lighting restrictions to brighten up their premises.
