SUPPLY OF SIXPENNY BEERS ASSURED

J DUNEDIN, I)ec. 2. • Greymouth 's sole remaining "sixpenny ' ' liotel is assured of beer supplies. The management of the Dunedin brewery which was threatened with any of its products destined for other parts of the country being declared "black" until the West Coast liad adequate stocks . guaranteed, yesterday assured the Transport Workers' Eederation that the needs of the Westlaud liotel would be met. At least in the meantime, no aetion is plauned against the brewery. The deeision was considered at meetings of the Dunedin braneh of the Transport Workers ' Federation and the Utago Trades Couucil last night, and statexnents were issuedby both bodies. Ln eacli ease it was niade apparent that. the matter of the West Coast beer boycolt had been considered, on a broad basis, as a protest against the general increase in the cost of living. ' ' ilaving been assured that the sole remaining ' si.\penny ' hotel in Greymouth will receive its full quota of oeer, the braneh hua deeided that no further aetion will be taken in the meantime, ' ' said the statement issued on behalf of the Transport Workers' Federation. " We are resolved, notwithstanding this assuranee, that the canipaigu against rising priees should be eoutmued. To this end, we suggest that the operations of the Priee Triliunal be made more efL'eetive. " The Otago Trades Couneil, which held its moiitlily meeting last night, also considered the beer boyeott and passed the following resolution: "That we support the West Coast uniouists in tlieir attitude, and in their attempt to keep the cost of commodities at the ! lowest price possible. " The assuranee given by tlie brewery may well liuve saved a dill'icult situation in the transport industry in Dunedin. Lu spite of a request from Wellington for aetion to be. takou against the brewery which supplies the West Coast, there was a strong fceling among at least some of the clrivers, wlio wouhl have been directly coiicerned in any i simh move, that the matter was not j oue for tliem. Iiad a vote been necesi sary at last night 's meeting, it is probj alile that there would have been conI siderable opposition to deelaring local i beer supi»lies "black.''
