SHANNON TENNIS CLUB
A general meetng of the Shannon. Tennis Cluh was hel-d last week, when 'the committee and officers for the season were re-or-ganised. Mr. K. Batt was appointed eiub captain and Mrs. Higgott vicecaptain of the ladies' seccion. The committee now comprises Messrs K. Batt, K. Thomson, C. Mortimer, A. Peni, C. Booker, H. Moore, Mesdames Higgott, D. Jones, C. Wishart, Misses J. Clough and C. Burke. Mr. K. Thomson was appointed delegate to the Manawatu Tennis Association. ■ On the motion of Mr. K. Batt, lt was agreed that the commencement age for junior players be 10 years, and that subscriptions be paid by December 1. The appointment of Messrs F. X. Thurston and G. G. Mitchell as life members of the club in appreciation of the excellent work tione for the club during the many years which they held executive positions was enthusiastically received by the meeting, many speakers mentioning the amount of work that these two gentlemen had done for the club during their'long association with it. It was decided to affiliate with the Manawatu Tennis Associatiqn again this season. A special afternoon has been set aside for the ladies each Thursday, commencing on November 20. A series of friendly games with outsi'de clubs has been arranged, the first against the Foxton Club, which will be played at the Shannon courts on Sunday nexb. A "Yankee" tournament has been set down as the fixture for next Saturday, and a large gathering of players is expected. The rules governing play on the local courts have been adopted again this season. ) A vote of thanks to the chair terminated "the business of the meeting.
