Most of the people casting their votes this morning were elderly yesidents. The county booth in the Century Hall was maintaining even pressure. It is expected that the result of the mayoralty election will be available at about 7.45 p.m. This will be announced outside "the Borough Office and arrangements have also been made to have • it broadcast from 2ZA Palmerston North and. the national stationsThe county elections will ,be piore complicated, but it is hoped to have the results broadcast from 2ZA possibly. in the vicinity of 9 p.m. There were indications of a record poll in the Shannon Borough election for Mayor and council. From the time the booth opeped until noon there was a continuous stream of electors, unusual interest being taken in the contest. The need for ' every elector to register his or her vote cannot be too strongly e'ftiphasised. Polling booths are open until 7 p.m.
