BUILDINGS FOR INDUSTRY
REPLY TO BOROUGH COUNCIL'S REPRESENTATIONS ' The establishment of light industries ip Levin was discussed by the Levin Borough Cou'ncil at its meeting on Monday night. The tawn elerk, Mr, H. L. jepkinSj, r.eported that he had % written to the Commissioner of Works, Mr. E. K. McKiliop, outliiiing the disabilities confronting Levin in the face of the lack Qf suitable empty buildings, and expressed the desire of the cQuncil to encburage the establishment of ' o,dditional industries that would provide further avenues of employment for residents of the borough. The commissioner, ifi a letter read at the meeting, replied thut while the Building Controller had >no record of any applications hav'ing been lodged for permits to erect buildings for the establishment of light industry, and could make no general commitments in regard to the issue of permits 'qt the present time, he assured the council that any representations would be taken into consideration should any applieations be received. He thep asked the council for a brief yecord of proposals for the establishment of manufacturing industrjes which were defin-i-tely pending. The Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, stated that a welj-known footwear firm was most desirous of establishing a plant in Levin. They were shortly going to send a repre;sentative here to investigate the, •position. It wa,s -decided to notify the firms which fiad indicated that they were interested in factory sites in Levin of the present position.
