TERM OF WORK CONCLUDES
SPEECHES AT FINAL MEETING OF ROROUGH COUNCIL The Shannon Borough Council vijktually concluded its term of oince with its fhial meeting last Tuesday evening. At the conclusion of the general business the. Deputy-Mayor, Mr. R. R. Lind, said he regr,etted that the Mayor could not be present for the final meeting. Mr. Lind went on to highly praise the work Mr. Downes had done in the interests of the borough, and said he was indeed sorry ,that Mr. Downes was not seeking re-elec-tion. Mr. Lind mentioned that two members of the council were also • retiring, Crs. J. A. Rokch and E. Perry. Cr. Roach had served for fifteen years and Cr. Perry for almost ten years. Both had given loyal service to the community and Mr. Lind wished them a long and most enjoyable retirement. He concluded by congratulating Crs. Aitchison, Higgie, Wishart and Norris on off.ering themselves for a further term, and wished them every success at the poll. To the town clerk, Mr. J. T. Bovis, and the borough f oreman, Mr. F. Haley, and other members' of the staff, Mr. Lind extended -his sincere thanks for their assistance and stated that the council was indeed fortunate in having such loyal executive officers. Crs. Aitchison, Wishart and Norris joined with the Deputy-Mayor in paying tribute to the Mayor an'd Crs. Roach and Perry, and also thanked Mr. Lind for his remarks and joined in wishing him every success in his venture for the mayoral office. In his reply, Cr. Roach extended thanks to the Deputy-Mayor and all councillors for' their very kind remarks, and stated that he had always taken a pride in Shannon. Anything he had been able to do for its betterment was indeed a pleasure. He also expressed his best wishes for success to Mr. Lind and to those councillors who were again contesting the council. Cr. Roach endorsed the remarks of the other speakers in regard to the work given the
" - borough by Mr. Bovis and Mr. Haley. Cr. Perry was brief in his remarks, and said that he was very sorry to leave such'a band of willing helpers. He had enjoyed serving on the council, and anything he had been able to do to assist the town had been a pleasure. Cr. Perry- also extended thanks to members of the staff. The town clerk, Mr. Bovis, in his reply, thanked- the various speakers for their kind remarks and said that it had been a pleasure to work under the present council. Mr. Haley also extended his thanks. Speaking on behalf of the Press, Mr. T. S. Downes thanked the Mayor and councillors, and- also Mr. Bovis, for the very helpful attitude in which they had received him at the meetings, and wished Mr.,Lind and the four members of the present council who were seeking re-election every success.
