AUSTERITY AT LORD MAYOR'S BANQUET
LONDON, Xov. 10. The Lord Mayor's banquet, world famous before the war for its splen dour, retreated tliis year to full wartime austerity, There were 225 guests in the Mansion House -instead of the 1000 which is usnal at the Guildhall. With the Minister of Food, Mr. Strachey, at the top of the table, there was only one maia eourse — turkev, with roast or boiled potatoes and brussel sprouts, but the Mansion House contrived to eon tinue traditional turtle soup, the swee4 was trifle and ice cream, and there wer pastries. Drink was less restricted The guests were offered sherry, cham pagne, brandy, port and whisky. The banquet followed the Lord Mayor's show, which included 10 taideaux designed to show the importanee of agriculture to London and all of Britain.
