complete stroke arra}'- — played a beautiful innings today. The New South Wales' fielding was vastly superiod to that of the Indians and the State 's bowling was more varied. The Indians were not happy opposed to the fast bowlers, Lindwall and Miller. The New South Wales batsmen' made merry today, Miller, Pettiford and Lindwall all hitting out freely. hliller took 18, including four fours, Oif the opening oyer of the day, and in all batted 113 minutes for 72 with 11 boundaries. Pettiford was only 105 minutes ntaking his 73 and Lindwall hit up 47 in 37 minutes. The State 's innings was closed at eight for 561 after 410 minutes. India opened badly, losing two for 35. Mankad and Hazare then engaged in a fine partnership worth 99 runs in 64 minutes. Mankad was bowled off his foot after a good but some what lucky innings. He was dropped before . scoring and again at 8 but both were hard ehanees. Hazare gave a most polished display, At stumps he had been in 118 minutes and had hit ten fours.
