TRACK TRIALS AT AWAPUNI
Sea Furv (J. Garth) and Horouta (V. J. Sellars), with 1.4 for- live, last three in 39 3-5, gave au indication of the condition of the track, for they were going particularly well at the post. Next out were Broiefield (Sellars) and Langue d'Or (Garth). They were given time to settle down, running the first furlong in 15 and the first five in 1.8 3-5. Then the pace was clapped on and they were home together brilliantly in 38 1-5 to complete in 1.46 3-5. It was a grand gallop and Langue d'Or went well for Garth. ✓ Then Yandra (W. L. Aitken) came out with Mesalliance (A. Bowness)- to register what was probablv the best of the morning over a mile. They travelled together and easily to the three, reaehed in 1.4 2-5, and they were home in 39 to complete. in 1.43 2-5. It was a very good gallop and both were going easibf at the finish. K. Chote has been engaged to ride Yandra at Stratford. They were followed by Emerge (Sellars) and Yasda (Garth) in a slashing trial over seven. The pace was on from tlie start apd they broke 52 for the first half-mile, and with Emerge on the inner they were home brilliantly in 3S 3-5 to complete in 1.29 4-5. Awapuni 's third Levin Handicap candidate, Argumentative (J. Harris), went with Blank Cheque (A. Bowness) over seven, and Argumentative was a, length to tho good at the post after running the distance in 1.33, thc first half-mile in 51 3-5. Voltaic (1). Amey) was going easily alongside Legendre (W. J. (Broughton) at the end of seven covered in 1.34 1-5. They ran the last six in 1.20 1-5, which was not bad. Thimble (Broughton) galloped with Fairhome over about a mile and three furlongs with the pace sound for the last seven in 1.35 3-5; the last five in 1.6, and Ihe last three in 39. Oue of the best gallops over six was that of Sly Robin- (W. Eout) and Fox%me (Aitken). Thev were home from the five in 1.4 to break 1.18 for the full distance. Pitoitoi (A. Bowness) scampered home from the three in 37 1-5, and others timed . over the same distance were Nerissa (S. Waddell) and Lord Bradbnry (F. Cleaver), 39 3-5; Timber Bay (N. Rouse) and Filature (R. Saunders), 39; Craven- (Broughton) and Afton Water (Sellars), 38 3-5; and Winter Sport (Amey) and Dunloe (Harris), 40 3-5. Flirtatious (D. Collins) and Balcairn (Aitken) travelled fast early and were "home the last five of seven in 1.5. Gallops over six furlongs included those of Arctie Cirele (Harris), 1.23 3-5;' and Phosphene (Harris) and Lney Bian, 1.23 3-5, the last three in 41 1-5. .Timed, o.ver seven were Raiding
(Sellars)' and Gratuity (Garth), 1.37 2-5. Nanaaki (Garth) and Incident (Sellars) galloped a mile in 1.46 1-5, breaking 1.20 for the last six. On the plough, which was fast, Molly Adair (I. Oole) covered five in 1.7, Lady Oratory (Cole), six easily in 1.26, and Czarina (A. Bain) and Meteorina (Amey), seven in 1.35 3-5. Tavern Light (A. G. Waddell) and Tide Area (M. Andrews) gave a good exhibition of fast jumping over six flights of hurdles. Commercial (Harris) and Tudor Chief (A. Bowness) were associated over a mile on the trial grass and they were going well at the finish after running the last three in 41 and the full dis- % tance in 1.46. Wenibley (Harris) and the filly by Broiefort from Honeybird (Bowness) galloped over three furlongs in_39 2-5. Incident is an unlikely starter at Levin. Tribute (Waddell) jurnped splendidly in a bout over six hurdles. He appeaxs to have a liking for the garne.
